Dr. H.P. Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NSIC

Dr. H. P. Kumar is the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of “National Small Industries Corporation”, a Mini Ratna Public Sector organization of Government of India. Dr. Kumar, besides being a qualified Banker, holds a professional degree of “Cost & Management Accountant” and a Doctorate. He held senior positions of Corporate head of finance & C.E.O. of public sector corporations. He also held foreign assignments with African countries. Dr. Kumar has a long experience of dealing with promotion, development and financing of industries, exports and other small & large projects. He has been a member of “National Small Business Advisory Council of South Africa” appointed by the Government of South Africa.

During his tenure as Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NSIC, Dr. Kumar has not only steered ahead NSIC to be a truly international organization achieving a turnover of US$ 1.5 billion with sound financial footings but also initiated many new programmes for promotion and growth of MSME sector in the country.

He has been a visiting faculty for Damelin School of Banking, South Africa and Botswana Institute of Bankers. He is also member of various professional management bodies in India & abroad. He is Chairman of SME Committee of AIMA and is on the Governing Councils of various professional bodies i:e, National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (NIMSME), Hyderabad, National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), Noida and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati.

Dr. Kumar’s vision is to provide a common platform to youth from diverse economic backgrounds to become self-employeds through creation of new small enterprises and ease out the unemployment problem in the country. Dr. Kumar has devised an innovative model of Rapid incubation of unemployeds to empower them with knowledge & hand holding with support services for setting up new small enterprises in manufacturing and services sectors. This model has gained great success in India and in many countries abroad.
