Amazon Now to Add 300 Dark Stores by Year-End, Opening Two a Day
Launched earlier this year in Bengaluru, Amazon Now expanded to Delhi and Mumbai ahead of the festive season with about 100 centres.

Amazon Now, the quick-commerce arm of Amazon India, is ramping up its expansion with plans to open two new micro-fulfilment centres every day across Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai. The company aims to cross 300 such dark stores by the end of the year as it pushes deeper into the rapidly growing instant-delivery market.

Samir Kumar, country manager at Amazon India, said strong customer adoption has encouraged the company to scale faster. “We will end the year at well over 300 micro-fulfilment centres and are not slowing down — opening two such centres a day across Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai,” he said.

Launched earlier this year in Bengaluru, Amazon Now expanded to Delhi and Mumbai ahead of the festive season with about 100 centres. The company has since added many more to keep up with rising demand for ultra-fast grocery and essentials delivery. Amazon noted that Prime members tripled their shopping frequency after adopting the service.

Amazon Now also plans to expand beyond its current three-city footprint in the coming months. The company said it will keep adding coverage across more neighbourhoods while preparing to enter new cities.

The quick-commerce race has intensified this year, with rivals aggressively scaling their networks. Blinkit, for instance, is targeting 3,000 dark stores by March 2027 and recently secured a ₹600-crore investment from parent Eternal. Zepto raised $450 million at a $7-billion valuation, while Swiggy secured board approval to raise up to ₹10,000 crore. BigBasket’s retail arm also raised ₹200 crore in debt from DBS Bank.

Despite Amazon’s rapid build-out, it still trails the scale of established competitors — but its deep pockets and accelerating store expansion suggest a more serious push into the q-commerce battle ahead.
