Amul is preparing to broaden its presence in Israel by exporting a wider range of dairy products building on its current shipments of ghee, according to Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) Managing Director Jayen Mehta.
Speaking during a visit to Israel as part of a 60-member business delegation accompanying Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal Mehta said the cooperative is working to position its products for both the Indian community and the broader Israeli market.
“We are exporting ghee here, but we will soon expand to multiple other products that can serve not just the Indian diaspora but the mainstream market” Mehta told PTI.
A key step in that effort is meeting Israel’s kosher standards religious dietary rules that determine which foods are permissible under Jewish law. Mehta noted that GCMMF is already navigating the certification processes required to bring more Amul products to local consumers. “It’s a certification of the process that we have to comply with to cater to the core market” he said.
Mehta also highlighted opportunities for collaboration between the two countries, pointing out that while India is the world’s largest milk producer Israel’s technological advancements in dairy productivity could help India improve cattle management and output.
“Our focus is to improve the productivity of our cattle. In feeding and animal management, we require technology. These are the areas where Israel has done good work” he said, adding that Israeli innovations could also support agricultural productivity in India’s arid regions.
