Demand remained strong across regions: Tier I cities contributed about 40% of total order volumes, Tier II cities 23%, and Tier III cities nearly matched metro levels with a 37% share.

Black Friday shopping in India recorded a robust 27% surge in orders this year, driven largely by demand for healthy foods, beauty and personal care products, and home essentials, according to new data from e-commerce enablement platform Unicommerce.

Though the US-origin shopping event traditionally marks the start of the post-Thanksgiving holiday season, it has rapidly evolved into a major retail moment in India. Black Friday fell on November 28 this year, but deals stretched across an extended “Cyber Week” that will culminate in Cyber Monday’s online-heavy promotions.

Unicommerce said orders processed through its Uniware platform — which manages order, inventory and warehouse operations — showed continued momentum in India’s online retail ecosystem. FMCG, especially healthy foods, posted the steepest rise with an 83% year-on-year jump. Beauty and personal care followed with 77% growth, while home products climbed 63%.

Fashion and accessories remained the top category by sheer volume, logging more than 3.4 million orders during the sale period.

One notable shift, the company said, is that Black Friday has expanded from a short 2–3 day burst of discounts into a week-long, high-engagement shopping window. Brands and marketplaces rolled out promotions earlier to meet rising demand and allow shoppers more time for product discovery.

Demand remained strong across regions: Tier I cities contributed about 40% of total order volumes, Tier II cities 23%, and Tier III cities nearly matched metro levels with a 37% share — more than 4.3 million items — reflecting fast-growing digital adoption and improving logistics in smaller towns.

With Cyber Monday following close behind, Unicommerce noted that the combined sale period is increasingly shaping how brands plan their annual e-commerce and promotional strategies in India.
