Chennai-based skincare brand CHOSEN has raised USD 5 million in a Series A funding round led by Fireside Ventures with participation from BOLD, L’Oréal’s corporate venture capital fund and Alkemi Growth Capital.

The round also saw investments from angel investor Avnish Anand, co-founder and former CEO of CaratLane, along with several dermatologists including Dr Chandan Asokan, Dr KC Nischal, Dr Punit Saraogi, Dr Nishita Ranka and Dr Mikki Singh.

The fresh capital will be used to strengthen its R&D capabilities, expand its portfolio of clinically validated products, and scale its Centre of Excellence. It also plans to invest in talent across key business functions to support growth.

Founded in 2020 by Renita Rajan, CHOSEN focuses on science-led skincare designed for melanin-rich Indian skin. Its approach is based on the science of the exposome and targets four key areas of aging: pigmentation, skin texture, contour, and hair aging. The brand offers a mix of topical formulations and nutraceutical products, following a clinic-to-consumer model developed in collaboration with dermatologists.

CHOSEN had earlier raised USD 1.2 million in an angel funding round in 2024.

Since its launch, the brand has built its product and treatment approach based on insights from more than 150,000 consultations. It operates through a hybrid model that combines a network of dermatologists with a direct-to-consumer platform, allowing users to begin treatment under medical guidance and continue care independently.

The brand currently offers around 58 stock-keeping units (SKUs) across its doctor-led and online channels. Its products are prescribed in over 2,000 clinics across India, while its digital platform caters to customers nationwide. According to the company, nearly 95% of its online sales come through its own platform.

CHOSEN is also preparing to expand into international markets, particularly in regions such as Latin America and East Asia, where demand for skincare suited to “skin of color” is growing.
