Palo Alto Networks is set to acquire Bengaluru-based AI infrastructure startup Portkey as part of its efforts to strengthen enterprise AI security. The California-headquartered cybersecurity firm plans to integrate Portkey into its Prisma AIRS platform. The integration will position Portkey as a centralised AI gateway designed to monitor, route and secure AI-driven interactions across enterprise systems.
The move comes as organizations increasingly adopt autonomous AI agents that operate with broader access across internal and external workflows, creating new security and governance challenges.
Portkey provides infrastructure to manage AI agents at scale, processing large volumes of data with low latency. Its platform enables runtime inspection of AI traffic, enforces governance policies and applies identity-based controls to regulate how AI agents behave. It also offers features such as semantic routing, failover systems, telemetry and audit logs to improve reliability and visibility.
The integration is expected to help enterprises bring together fragmented AI tools into a single control layer. It may also improve oversight and reduce operational costs through capabilities like caching and usage limits. Additionally, the platform supports access to multiple large language models and tools through a unified interface.
Founded in Bengaluru, Portkey focuses on building software that helps developers and enterprises design, deploy and manage AI applications and autonomous agents in production environments.
The acquisition follows closely after Portkey raised USD 15 million in a Series A funding round led by Elevation Capital and Lightspeed. The startup had earlier secured USD 3 million in a seed round led by Lightspeed in August 2023.
Palo Alto Networks said it will continue to support Portkey’s existing customers after the deal closes, which is expected in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2026.
