Through Panchatantra stories, the project seeks to promote leadership skills, critical thinking, and moral values among students. On the occasion, the Education Minister also inaugurated NIEPA’s new academic building.
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Panchatantra Project has been launched to connect India’s knowledge traditions with the modern education system. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the initiative on October 29, 2026. The project aims to develop life skills among young learners through ancient Panchatantra stories. It places special emphasis on leadership skills, critical thinking, moral values and responsible citizenship.
Panchatantra Stories to Help Develop Life Skills
The IKS Panchatantra Project focuses on connecting traditional Indian stories with students’ learning and personality development. Through animal and bird characters and their experiences, Panchatantra stories offer lessons on decision-making, understanding problems and behaviour.
The initiative aims not only to impart moral education through these stories but also to encourage students to develop skills such as analysing situations, making informed decisions and understanding their responsibilities. However, detailed information about the classes of students who will be covered under the project and how it will be implemented in schools is not yet available.
Focus on Indian Knowledge Traditions Under NEP 2020
At the launch of the project, Pralhad Joshi said that the country’s education system is moving towards establishing a balance between modern innovation and Indian knowledge traditions through the National Education Policy (NEP).
He described the IKS Panchatantra Project as an important step towards integrating India’s rich civilisational heritage into education. According to him, the initiative seeks to promote values, leadership skills, critical thinking and responsible citizenship among young learners.
NEP 2020 also emphasises the holistic development of students, better conceptual understanding and critical thinking. The initiative to integrate Panchatantra stories into education can be viewed in the context of these broader objectives.
Inauguration of NIEPA’s New Academic Building
During the same event, the Education Minister also inaugurated the new academic building of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi. The institute plays an important role in education planning, administration, research and academic policymaking.
The programme also highlighted the effective implementation of education policies and the strengthening of institutional capabilities. Detailed information about the project’s implementation plan, allocated budget, participating schools and rollout timeline has not yet been announced. These details will clarify how the initiative will be implemented in classrooms.
