Anthropic has signed a USD 35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing people familiar with the matter.
Under the arrangement, Nvidia will hold a 15-year lease on a data center being developed by Hut 8, a bitcoin miner turned data-center operator, in Nueces County, Texas. Lambda will install Nvidia-purchased chips at the facility and provide the resulting computing capacity to Anthropic. The site is expected to deliver around 350 megawatts of capacity. Financial terms of Lambda’s arrangement with Nvidia for access to the facility have not been disclosed.
The deal is reported to run for six years. It follows Anthropic’s USD 45 billion, six-year agreement with Nscale for Nvidia computing power at a West Virginia facility, taking the company’s total computing commitments this year to more than USD 135 billion.
The agreement adds to a wave of multi-billion-dollar AI infrastructure deals this year, including Nvidia’s up to USD 100 billion investment in OpenAI, OpenAI’s USD 38 billion cloud agreement with Amazon and Anthropic’s own USD 30 billion Azure commitment alongside investments from Microsoft and Nvidia. Anthropic’s annualised revenue run rate reportedly reached USD65 billion by the end of July.
