Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation to launch 50 electric buses in Azamgarh, aiming to reduce pollution and offer commuters a more eco-friendly and comfortable travel experience.

sustainable transportation, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation is expanding its electric bus fleet. As part of this initiative, Azamgarh region will receive 50 electric buses in the second phase. In the first phase, electric buses were already introduced in neighboring cities like Varanasi and Gorakhpur.

According to transport officials, the new electric buses in Azamgarh will serve both urban and rural areas. The objective is to reduce dependence on diesel buses while providing clean and comfortable public transport. As the number of electric buses increases, specific routes will be identified and expanded accordingly.

Currently, the Azamgarh region operates seven depots — Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Doharighat, Ambedkar Nagar, Belthara Road, and Shahganj — from where a total of 527 buses run daily, including 467 government-owned and 105 under contract. These depots operate buses on both state and inter-state routes, connecting cities like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Lucknow, and Delhi.

Manoj Bajpai, Regional Manager of the Azamgarh Transport Division, stated that the expansion of electric buses is a strategic move to tackle pollution caused by diesel vehicles. The initiative is expected to benefit the environment while strengthening the public transport network with safer and more sustainable options.
