Hindustan Zinc Limited has launched 40 electric bulker trucks as part of its sustainable logistics initiative. The vehicles have been deployed in partnership with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd. under an eight-year contract.
The electric bulkers will transport calcine, a byproduct of the zinc roasting process, from the company’s Zinc Smelter in Udaipur to its integrated zinc-lead smelter in Chittorgarh. Ten trucks have already been deployed, with the remaining units scheduled for rollout over the coming months.
This move is part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader sustainability strategy aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The company, one of the world’s largest integrated zinc producers and among the top five global silver producers, stated that the electric fleet will help reduce logistics-related carbon emissions while improving operational safety and efficiency.
Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, said, “This initiative reflects our commitment to embedding sustainability into our logistics operations. These electric mobility solutions not only reduce our carbon footprint but also enhance operational efficiency, workforce safety, and long-term value.”
Hindustan Zinc also signed a memorandum of understanding with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility to deploy electric buses for employee transportation at its Udaipur smelter facility. Replacing diesel buses with electric ones will further reduce emissions and provide a cleaner commute for employees.
The company already operates liquefied natural gas (LNG) and battery-powered trucks. Additional carbon reduction measures include a 530-megawatt renewable energy agreement and investments in energy efficiency projects such as turbine upgrades and variable frequency drive installations.
In 2025, Hindustan Zinc became the first Indian company to join the International Council on Mining & Metals and holds validated Science Based Targets aligned with the 1.5°C global warming threshold. For the second consecutive year, the company was recognized among the top 1 percent in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook.
