Jaipur-based ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging network ChargeJet has introduced an App-Free Charging feature, enabling EV owners across India to charge their vehicles without installing a mobile application.
To use the service, drivers simply connect the charging gun to their vehicle, scan the QR code displayed on the charger, and make the payment through UPI or any other digital payment method. Once the payment is successful, the charging session begins automatically, eliminating the need to download an app, create an account, or maintain a prepaid wallet balance.
According to the company, the feature has been developed by leveraging India's widespread adoption of QR-based digital payments, making public EV charging as simple and convenient as everyday digital transactions. Traditionally, most public charging networks require users to download an app, register, verify their identity, and preload funds before initiating their first charging session, a process that often discourages first-time users.
ChargeJet said the new feature offers several benefits, including instant QR-based charging without prior registration, secure transactions through established digital payment gateways, no app installation, no wallet top-ups, and significantly reduced waiting time before charging begins.
The company noted that the launch comes at a time when India's EV market is witnessing rapid growth, driven by rising fuel prices, increasing environmental awareness, and government initiatives such as the FAME India programme. Industry experts have also identified complex app-based onboarding processes at public charging stations as a key barrier to wider EV adoption. ChargeJet believes its App-Free Charging feature will help simplify the public charging experience and encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles across the country.
