GITAM (Deemed to be University) has appointed Prof. M. V. Kartikeyan Machavaram as Pro Vice Chancellor of its Bengaluru campus. Before joining here, he was working at IIITDM Kancheepuram. He brings over two decades of experience in academic and institutional leadership, having held leadership positions at IIT Roorkee, IIT Tirupati and IIIT Sri City.
Prof. Kartikeyan’s academic and research work spans millimetre wave and terahertz technologies, RF systems, computational electromagnetics and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in engineering design. His work has received international recognition, including the Hildegard Maier Research Fellowship and the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in Germany. He is a Fellow of IEEE, the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Welcoming Prof. Kartikeyan to GITAM, Dr. M. Prof. Kartikeyan to Strengthen Academic and Research Initiatives at GITAM Bengaluru
Prof. Kartikeyan will work closely with the university’s academic and leadership teams. In his role, he will contribute to the academic and research environment at the Bengaluru campus, drawing on his experience across leading technology and higher education institutions.
Prof. M. V. Kartikeyan Machavaram, Pro Vice Chancellor, GITAM Bengaluru, said, “GITAM Bengaluru has built a strong foundation in research and innovation and I see significant potential to take this further. My focus will be on strengthening the campus’s research ambitions by encouraging interdisciplinary research, supporting high-quality and impactful work, and creating stronger collaborations with industry, academia and research institutions. Equally important will be creating an environment where faculty and students have the freedom and support to pursue ambitious ideas, develop emerging areas of research and translate their work into meaningful solutions for society.”
The Bengaluru campus has built a strong focus on research in emerging technologies, with faculty working across areas including engineering, sciences and technology. In the past year, faculty members published 317 research papers, including 157 papers in Scopus indexed Q1 and Q2 journals. The campus also secured six externally funded research projects worth Rs. 2.54 crore from agencies including BRNS, ANRF, UGC DAE CSR, TIH Foundation IIT Bombay and TiHAN IIT Hyderabad, alongside 10 patents.
GITAM Bengaluru Expands Research Infrastructure and Emerging Technology Labs
The campus has also invested in expanding its research infrastructure, with facilities including a Centre of Excellence in Electric Vehicles, an Advanced Extended Reality (AXR) Research Laboratory, a Drone Laboratory, a Networking Technologies Lab and the Cosmos Lab under the School of Sciences. These additions take the number of state of the art research labs established at the Bengaluru campus over the past two years to 14, supported by an overall investment of Rs. 5.65 crore.
