Google.org has announced $15 million in funding for The/Nudge to support the growth and digital enablement of India’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). India has more than 90 million small businesses, employing over 345 million people. Many of these businesses face challenges in accessing formal credit, managing regulatory compliance and reaching digital markets.
AI Tools to Address Key Challenges Faced by Small Businesses
The funding will support the development of scalable AI tools to help small enterprises access formal credit, discover new markets and manage compliance requirements. The initiative will include an open call for proposals to identify innovative solutions through stage-gated grand challenges.
The programme will also develop a multilingual, voice-led platform to train local talent in Tier 3 and Tier 4 towns. The platform aims to equip participants with job-ready skills and connect them directly with small businesses.
The announcement was made in the presence of MSME Secretary Bharat Khera and leaders from Google and The/Nudge, highlighting the role of AI and digital solutions in supporting India’s small-business ecosystem.
