India–UK Collaboration to Boost EV Charging Innovation with Scharge Project
TDB has partnered with Scharge Pvt Limited under the India–UK R&D programme to develop advanced EV charging solutions for fleet and depot operations.

The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has signed an agreement with Scharge Pvt Limited for a project titled “Powering EV Charging Innovation.” The initiative is supported under the India–UK Collaborative R&D Programme for Industrial Sustainability, in partnership with UK-based Albright Product Design Limited, to develop advanced solutions for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

The project aims to create next-generation EV charging solutions tailored for commercial fleet and depot operations. It integrates Scharge’s innovative charge controller with a patented automated cable management system from its UK partner, enhancing efficiency, safety, and usability in high-demand charging environments.

A key feature of the solution is a motorised overhead cable management system designed for fleet applications. This system reduces manual handling, minimizes cable wear and tear, and improves user convenience, while being compatible with existing AC Type-2 EV chargers. It is expected to improve charging turnaround time and ensure a more organized and secure depot infrastructure.

By addressing challenges such as cable management, equipment safety, and workflow optimization, the technology is set to significantly enhance EV charging depot efficiency. It also aims to improve safety standards by reducing risks related to cable damage, vandalism, and operational hazards.

Scharge Pvt Limited, an emerging Indian EV technology firm, focuses on advanced power electronics and smart charging systems. Through this initiative, the company seeks to strengthen indigenous capabilities and support scalable, sustainable infrastructure for India’s growing electric mobility sector.

TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak emphasized that collaborative R&D initiatives like the India–UK programme are crucial for accelerating industry-relevant innovations. He added that advancements in EV charging infrastructure are key to enabling faster adoption of electric mobility and building a future-ready ecosystem in India.

The promoter of Scharge Pvt Limited expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the project will help deliver globally competitive EV charging solutions to meet the evolving needs of fleet operators and infrastructure providers.
