Oben Electric, India’s fastest-growing R&D-driven electric motorcycle manufacturer, marked National Road Safety Month with a city-led initiative titled #SaluteAtSignal, paying tribute to the Bengaluru Traffic Police for their relentless efforts in managing one of the country’s most congested urban road networks. The week-long initiative was conducted at some of the city’s busiest junctions, aiming to shift public focus from traffic congestion and impatience to the human effort behind traffic management.
Implemented at Sony Signal, Koramangala, and Vydehi Signal, Whitefield, the initiative encouraged commuters during peak evening hours between 6 pm and 9 pm to participate in a coordinated red-signal tribute. Motorists were requested to switch on their parking or hazard lights briefly, refrain from honking, and remain stationary as a mark of respect. The initiative resulted in a rare collective pause at high-pressure intersections, visibly acknowledging traffic police officers on duty.
At Sony Signal, the initiative recognised Shanoor Nadaf (PC 15996) from the Adugodi Traffic Police Station, who has nine years of service and manages nearly eight hours of traffic daily at an intersection handling close to one lakh vehicles per shift. At Vydehi Signal, Sangamesh Desai (PC 18308) was honoured for his nine years of service, managing peak traffic for almost eight hours daily and overseeing around 15,000 vehicles per shift at one of Whitefield’s most critical junctions.
To enhance public awareness, informational boards at each signal displayed details such as the officer’s name, designation, years of service, duty hours, peak hours handled, and the average number of vehicles managed per shift. Thousands of commuters participated over the course of the week, gaining a clearer perspective on the scale and responsibility involved in ensuring road safety.
