Uttar Pradesh will provide EV subsidies, road tax exemptions, and registration fee waivers only for vehicles manufactured or assembled within the state from October 14, 2025.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major revision to its Electric Vehicle (EV) subsidy policy, under which only EVs manufactured or assembled within the state will be eligible for financial incentives. The revised policy will take effect on October 14, 2025, marking a significant shift aimed at boosting local manufacturing, attracting investment, and positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leading EV production hub in India.

Under the new system, only “Made in UP” EVs will qualify for purchase subsidies, road tax exemptions, and registration fee waivers. The government has also announced a 100 per cent rebate on EVs manufactured, sold, and registered in the state between October 14, 2025, and October 13, 2027.

Officials said this move is aligned with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, with the goal of fostering local employment, strengthening the state’s EV ecosystem, and encouraging more companies to set up production units in Uttar Pradesh.

However, the decision could temporarily affect buyers, as EVs produced outside the state will no longer qualify for subsidies, potentially leading to fewer model options and higher upfront costs. Buyers will need to apply for the subsidy through the official EV Subsidy Portal, with applications verified by the respective RTO offices.

Launched originally on October 14, 2022, Uttar Pradesh EV Policy aimed to promote green mobility by offering complete exemptions from road tax and registration fees for three years. It provided incentives ranging from ₹5,000 for electric two-wheelers to ₹20 lakh for electric buses, benefiting over 17,600 vehicle owners to date, while more than 38,000 applications remain pending.

Through this revised approach, the Uttar Pradesh government seeks to strengthen local production, generate employment, and accelerate EV adoption, making the state a key contributor to India’s clean mobility revolution.
