Swiggy has appointed Swapnil Bajpai as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its Dineout and Scenes businesses, marking a key leadership move as the company sharpens its focus on dining-out and experience-led services.

The development comes at a time when competition in the broader food and lifestyle segment is increasing, pushing companies to expand beyond traditional food delivery.

Bajpai, a long-time Swiggy executive, takes on the role after working across several functions within the company, including business operations, sales, supply and monetisation. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Business Head for Swiggy Dineout, Assure and Lynk, where he led growth initiatives and strengthened the company’s restaurant partnerships.

Swiggy entered the dining-out segment in 2022 through the acquisition of Dineout, aiming to diversify its offerings beyond delivery services. The move allowed the company to tap into services such as restaurant reservations, bill payments and in-restaurant deals. Initially, Dineout continued to operate under its founders, including Ankit Mehrotra to maintain continuity in merchant relationships and operations.

Over time, however, Dineout has been more closely integrated into Swiggy’s ecosystem, particularly in areas like payments, advertising, and merchant services. The addition of Scenes, which focuses on events, nightlife, and curated experiences, further reflects the company’s strategy to expand into consumer experiences beyond meals.

With Bajpai’s appointment, Swiggy is consolidating its “going-out” vertical by combining Dineout’s core services with Scenes’ event-driven offerings. This segment operates differently from food delivery with relatively lower logistics costs and higher revenue potential through commissions, advertising, prepaid deals and ticketing.

Bajpai’s professional background aligns with these priorities. At Swiggy, he has worked on advertising and monetisation strategies, as well as supply and sales operations. Before joining the company, he held roles at Reckitt as a Regional Sales Manager and spent several years at Procter & Gamble managing sales operations and go-to-market strategies.

Swiggy’s move is in line with broader industry trends, as competitors like Zomato also invest in dining-out services to increase user engagement. By strengthening its leadership in this segment, Swiggy aims to expand its presence across different consumer occasions, from everyday meals to social outings and events.
