VinFast to Start Tamil Nadu Operations in 3-4 Months
Vietnamese EV maker VinFast will begin operations at its Tamil Nadu plant within 3-4 months, starting with VF7 and VF6 electric SUVs for the Indian market.

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is set to commence operations at its new production facility in Tamil Nadu within the next three to four months, as confirmed by Dr. TRB Rajaa, the state's Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions, and Commerce.

The company began construction of its third global manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi in February 2024, expanding beyond its existing facilities in Vietnam and the United States. Spanning 400 acres, the plant will initially start with CKD (Completely Knocked Down) operations and a production capacity of 50,000 units, with plans to scale up to 150,000 units over time.

VinFast is expected to introduce locally assembled electric SUVs – VF7 and VF6 – ahead of the festival season. These SUVs will compete with Mahindra BE 6, XEV 7E, Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv, and Harrier EV, with an estimated price range of ₹20-30 lakh. While the primary focus of the plant will be catering to the Indian market, it will eventually serve Middle Eastern and African markets as well.

Following its successful strategy in Southeast Asia, VinFast plans to establish a full ecosystem in India, including charging infrastructure, financing, and leasing, alongside vehicle production.
