Surendra Nath Tripathi is the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, the Government of India. He has done MA (Political Science) from the University of Allahabad, and MBA in Public Policy Management from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

He joined Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1985 in Odisha cadre. While working for the Government of Odisha at various positions during 1985 to 2013, he handled different assignments like land revenue and management, industries, finance, communication and information technology, information and broadcasting, administration, textiles and handicrafts, urban development, rural development and Panchayati Raj.

He also served Orissa Computer Application Centre as a Chairman during 2006 to 2009. From 1995-96, he worked with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
