Naveen Krishna, Founder and Director, SMV Wheels Pvt Ltd, ventured into social entrepreneurship in order to make a difference in the lives of 2.8 million rickshaw drivers and pushcart operators in India by providing them better designed rickshaws/carts and support services on micro-leasing-cum-purchase basis to provide them ownership of their livelihood asset with a sense of dignity. Till date, it has benefited 2,040 customers, out of which 612 have already become the owner of their vehicle.

He spearheaded the development and grounding of business operations, raised capital with national and foreign investors, set up business infrastructure, partnerships, supply chain, consultancies and recruited the team and coordinated all areas of the company. He coordinated the Rickshaw Bank project, including its expansion in five Indian states and eight cities; team recruitment and orientation; networking with banks, municipal corporations, insurance companies and other stakeholders; monitoring and evaluation; representation in national and international forums.

He supported the Regional Centre at Lucknow in pre-funding appraisals and assisted the voluntary organisations seeking the support of Council for Advancement of Peoples Action & Rural Technology in project formulation and implementation. He has also been conferred some of the prestigious awards at social entrepreneurs village capital programme by DASRA & First Light Ventures (2010-11); Sankalp Awards under Technology for Development Sector (2010-11); ISB Idiya Awards held at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad (2011); World Bank, Development Marketplace (2013); and Inclusive India Awards by ICICI Foundation and CNBC18 (2013).
