Ather Energy produces its 500,000 electric scooter at Hosur facility; the company is also building a new factory in Maharashtra to boost production capacity.

Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy Limited has announced the production of its 500,000th electric scooter at its manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The milestone scooter is the company’s family-oriented ‘Rizta’ model, launched last year.

Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, described this achievement as a testament to the company’s strong engineering capabilities and quality control processes. He said, “Producing 500,000 scooters is a major milestone for Ather. It reflects our technical expertise and the trust of our customers.”

The Rizta model has become a key product for Ather, accounting for one-third of the company’s total production within its first year. Ather is now expanding its presence in North and Central India, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

Currently, Ather operates two manufacturing units in Hosur—one for vehicle assembly and another for battery production—with a combined annual capacity of 420,000 scooters.

The company is also developing its third facility, Factory 3.0, in Bidkin, AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant will be built in two phases using Industry 4.0 technologies. Once fully operational, it is expected to increase Ather’s total annual production capacity to 1.42 million electric scooters.

Founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Ather Energy currently manufactures two product lines—Ather 450 (performance-focused) and Rizta (family-oriented), offering a total of eight variants.

Ather has also established India’s first dedicated fast-charging network for two-wheelers, Ather Grid. As of June 30, 2025, the company has installed 4,032 chargers globally, including 3,997 in India and 35 in Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The company holds 318 registered trademarks, 204 registered designs, and 48 registered patents, with additional applications pending for 88 trademarks, 27 designs, and 383 patents worldwide.
