India retail sector has taken a step forward in sustainable mobility infrastructure with the introduction of battery swapping stations inside shopping malls. Battery swapping solutions provider Indofast Energy has partnered with Nexus Select Trust to launch Quick Interchange Stations at two Bengaluru malls Nexus Shantiniketan and Nexus Whitefield. This marks the first deployment of battery swapping infrastructure across Nexus Select Malls properties.
The initiative aims to offer faster and more convenient energy solutions for electric vehicle users, particularly commuters, gig workers, delivery partners, and fleet operators who depend on electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers in urban areas. By locating battery swapping stations at high-footfall retail destinations, the companies seek to address key challenges related to charging time and range anxiety.
Commenting on the partnership, Anant Badjatya, CEO, Indofast Energy, said the collaboration reflects an evolving approach to urban infrastructure that actively supports the adoption of electric mobility. Indofast Energy’s automated battery swapping technology enables users to replace depleted batteries within minutes, significantly improving operational efficiency for daily users.
Nilesh Singh, Senior Vice President- ESG and Business Excellence, Nexus Select Mall, said the initiative aligns with the company’s vision of transforming malls into future-ready urban ecosystems while promoting cleaner and more sustainable last-mile mobility solutions.
The partners plan to scale the infrastructure to additional cities, including Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, and Pune. Indofast Energy has outlined an ambitious plan to deploy 10,000 battery swapping stations across more than 40 Indian cities over the next three years.
Indofast Energy is a joint venture between IndianOil Corporation Limited and SUN Mobility. The company currently operates over 1,200 battery swap stations across 22 cities, facilitating more than 2.4 million battery swaps per month. Nexus Select Trust, India’s first listed Retail REIT, operates a portfolio of shopping malls across major urban centers in the country.
