Buyofuel (Buyo India Pvt. Ltd.), a B2B marketplace for biofuels and biomass in India, has entered into a strategic partnership with Honda Trading Corporation India Pvt. Ltd. (HTID), the Indian arm of Japan’s Honda Trading Group. The partnership aims to develop reliable supply chains for biofuels and their feedstock across India and beyond. The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) along with a long-term commercial agreement.
Under the partnership, Honda Trading India’s procurement, trading, and supply chain capabilities will be combined with Buyofuel’s technology platform, verified supplier network, and on-ground execution capabilities. The companies will work together to establish a reliable supply framework for industrial consumers and biofuel producers, with a focus on quality verification and traceability across the supply chain.
The collaboration will cover multiple categories, including ethanol feedstock and solid biofuels, which can be used as alternatives to coal in industrial applications. The initiative aims to improve the availability of alternative fuels for industries and establish a more organised and dependable biofuel supply network.
The agreements were formalised during a visit by Honda Trading Corporation India’s President and senior leadership team to Buyofuel’s headquarters in Coimbatore. During the visit, the team also reviewed Buyofuel supplier network and on-ground operations.
Kishan Karunakaran, Founder and CEO of Buyofuel, said the partnership with a global trading group such as Honda Trading marks an important development for the company. He added that the collaboration would combine Honda Trading’s trading capabilities and financial strength with Buyofuel’s technology platform and supplier network. This would enable both companies to address large-scale requirements that may be difficult for either to fulfil independently.
Sumanth Kumar, Co-Founder of Buyofuel, said supply chains would play a crucial role in India energy transition. He noted that while demand for biofuels and policy support exist, providing reliable supplies at scale remains a challenge for industrial consumers. He added that Buyofuel has spent the past six years building its supplier network and establishing a dependable supply system.
Joji Murakami, President of Honda Trading Corporation India, said biofuels are important for a cleaner industrial future, with India emerging as a key market in this transition. He highlighted Buyofuel’s industry knowledge, strong supplier network, and transparent operating model as important factors behind the partnership.
For Honda Trading, the collaboration represents an opportunity to expand beyond its traditional automotive value chain and strengthen its presence in India’s growing biofuel economy. For Buyofuel, the partnership brings the financial strength and global trading expertise of a major Japanese company to its existing marketplace, which connects thousands of verified buyers and sellers.
Through its platform, Buyofuel also supports the conversion of agricultural and organic waste into fuel for industrial applications, contributing to the development of alternative energy supply chains in India.
