The Delhi government has released its draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026, marking a significant step toward strengthening charging infrastructure across the capital. Under the proposal, all new infrastructure projects undertaken by urban local bodies will be required to be EV-charging ready.
According to the draft, agencies including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and the Delhi Cantonment Board must ensure that new civil projects have adequate electrical capacity to support future installation of EV charging stations.
The policy also mandates civic and land-owning agencies to periodically identify suitable land parcels for setting up public charging and battery swapping stations, supporting the expansion of infrastructure in line with rising EV adoption.
Additionally, Delhi Transco Limited has been designated as the nodal agency for planning and coordination of charging and battery swapping infrastructure. A single-window clearance system has also been proposed to streamline approvals for setting up charging stations.
The Delhi government has invited feedback and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public within 30 days of the policy’s release, which can be submitted to the Transport Department via email or post.
