Delhi EV Policy Offers 100% Tax Waiver on Cars Up to 30 Lakh
Delhi draft EV Policy 2026–2030 proposes full tax exemption for electric cars priced up to 30 lakh to boost adoption. It also plans to allow only electric three-wheelers from 2027 and offers incentives for hybrid vehicles.

The Delhi government has unveiled its draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026–2030, introducing a series of measures to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in the capital. Under the proposal, electric cars priced up to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom) will receive a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees until March 31, 2030.

According to the draft policy, no such exemptions will be available for electric cars priced above 30 lakh, while strong hybrid vehicles are proposed to receive a 50% tax benefit. Additionally, starting January 1, 2027, only electric three-wheelers will be allowed for new registrations in Delhi.

The government stated that the policy aims to boost EV adoption, improve air quality, and create a robust ecosystem for electric mobility. The policy will come into effect from the date of its official notification.

The Delhi government has also invited feedback and suggestions from the public and stakeholders within 30 days. Notably, the original EV policy, launched in August 2020 to curb vehicular pollution and promote EV adoption, has been extended multiple times since its initial term ended in August 2023.
