Google-backed edtech startup Adda247 has reportedly laid off more than 200 employees, accounting for nearly 20 percent of its workforce, as part of a restructuring exercise ahead of its planned initial public offering (IPO). The layoffs were carried out on April 30 at the company’s Gurugram office and affected multiple teams, including product, design, content and segments related to CUET, UPSC, judiciary preparation and teaching roles.

The move comes as the company looks to streamline operations and improve efficiency in preparation for its public market debut, expected within the next 12 to 18 months. According to reports, the restructuring could help Adda247 save around INR 5 crore annually in salary expenses.

As per Entrackr reports, the company said it regularly reviews its organisational structure to enhance execution and better serve learners. “As part of this exercise, we have made certain structural adjustments across functions while continuing to hire selectively for key roles,” the company said, adding that overall headcount remains broadly stable and impacted employees are being supported as per company policies.

Founded by Anil Nagar and Saurabh Bansal, Adda247 provides online test preparation for a wide range of competitive exams, including UPSC, banking, SSC, railways and other government recruitment tests. The startup has raised about USD 67 million in funding from investors such as Google, WestBridge Capital, Info Edge and Asha Impact.

The restructuring follows earlier workforce reductions, with the company reportedly laying off 250 to 300 employees in October 2023 across sales, content and faculty roles. Industry observers suggest that the latest move reflects a broader effort to control costs amid slowing growth in certain segments and concerns around profitability.

For the financial year 2025, Adda247 reported revenue of around INR 240 crore, while losses stood at approximately INR 70 crore, highlighting the need for operational adjustments as it moves toward listing.
