The ceremony, held at JW Marriott, Pune was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Union Ministers, government representatives and industry leaders.

Located across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, the facilities form an integrated manufacturing ecosystem for electric commercial vehicles. The expansion comes as EKA Mobility reports year-on-year growth of 1,243% in the first half of FY27, more than 13 times its performance in the corresponding period last year.

Six Facilities Expand Manufacturing Capabilities

The facilities were inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis; Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari; Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy; Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar; BJP National General Secretary (Organization) B.L. Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman, EKA Mobility and Group Companies, said the initiative marks an important milestone in building a globally competitive manufacturing ecosystem rooted in India. He highlighted the group's focus on indigenous engineering, innovation, sustainable mobility, employment generation and manufacturing excellence.

Avirbhava, a Sanskrit word meaning emergence or coming into being, reflects the company's vision of developing an integrated manufacturing ecosystem for India's electric commercial vehicle industry.

₹3,500 Crore+ Investment and 40,000 EV Annual Capacity

EKA Mobility and its group companies operate 11 manufacturing facilities across 120 acres, including the six inaugurated under the initiative. Together, these facilities have an annual production capacity of more than 40,000 electric vehicles.

The group has invested over ₹3,500 crore in its manufacturing ecosystem and more than ₹600 crore in research and development. It holds over 300 intellectual properties and employs more than 6,000 people. The company expects its operations and wider ecosystem to generate over 2.5 lakh jobs in the next five years.

The six facilities serve different manufacturing requirements:

} EKA SCV Plant, Pune: Manufactures small commercial vehicles.

} EKA Bus & Trucks Plant, Pune: Focuses on buses and medium and heavy commercial vehicle trucks.

} VDL Pinnacle Engineering Plant, Pune: An automotive engineering joint venture between Netherlands-based VDL Groep and Pinnacle Industries.

} Instor India Plant, Pune: Produces retail fixtures, displays, storage solutions and automotive components, including electric bus body structures and IP67-rated battery enclosures.

Electric Vehicle Portfolio Covers Multiple Segments

EKA Mobility's portfolio includes electric buses, small commercial vehicles and medium and heavy commercial vehicle trucks. The company is also a Champion OEM under the Government of India's Automotive Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, with certification across its product platforms.

Dr. Mehta said commercial electric vehicles must address diverse mobility needs, including passenger transportation and goods movement. The company aims to develop solutions for first-mile and last-mile connectivity, while making public transport more accessible, affordable and sustainable.

He added that electric mobility solutions must create value for operators, passengers and the wider economy, supported by strong domestic manufacturing and engineering capabilities.

R&D and Technology Support Vehicle Operations

The group has a workforce of more than 6,000 employees, including an R&D team of approximately 1,000 designers and engineers. Its proprietary software platform, EKA Connect, monitors more than 1,500 parameters for each running vehicle every half-second, providing operational and performance insights to the company and its fleet customers.

According to the company, vehicle data remains in India, supporting the requirements of state transport undertakings, public fleets and enterprise customers.

International Expansion and Order Book

EKA Mobility is also expanding its international presence. Its buses are deployed in Zanzibar, while its small commercial vehicles operate in Nepal. The company is establishing assembly plants in South Africa and Australia to explore opportunities in additional markets.

It has an order book of more than 11,000 buses valued at US$1.7 billion, with deployments across Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Meghalaya, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh.

The company's electric small commercial vehicles have recorded over 1,500 sales across India, serving passenger mobility, last-mile delivery and goods transportation. Its nationwide network includes more than 75 dealerships, each offering integrated sales, service and spare parts facilities.

With expanded manufacturing capacity, investments in R&D and a growing domestic and international presence, EKA Mobility aims to strengthen its position in India's electric commercial vehicle market.
