As nearly one million youth join India’s workforce every month, the government is emphasizing skill development to harness this growing potential. In this effort, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Mercedes-Benz India have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Speaking on the occasion, Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said, “India is transforming, and women are emerging as true change agents in sports, industry, education, and technology — empowering not only themselves but also their communities.”
Under this partnership, the ‘IGNiTE 4.0’ program aims to train 1,000 youth in advanced technologies like Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Industry 4.0, with 30% participation from women.
Training will be conducted at Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (Delhi-NCR) and MIT ADT University (Pune). The 12-month program will prepare candidates for key roles such as EV Service Assistant, Quality Control Assistant, Product Testing Technician, and Industry 4.0 Technician.
Minister Chaudhary highlighted that the government’s vision is to generate 45 million jobs in the mobility sector, including 9 million in the EV ecosystem. He further emphasized that India must now move beyond cost competitiveness and lead in innovation, research, and intellectual property creation.
Emrah Oezer, Executive Director & CFO of Mercedes-Benz India, said, “Through this collaboration, we aim to equip India’s youth with future-ready skills and connect them with the evolving automotive industry. This is part of our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.”
The program will be implemented by Kedman Skilling Private Limited and delivered via the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) to ensure quality, consistency, and transparent tracking. It will be executed in three phases: establishment of training centers, intensive skill training and job mapping, placement and continuous mentoring. To encourage women’s participation, the initiative also includes family awareness programs, mock interviews, and entrepreneurship training.
As India advances toward its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, the EV industry is expected to play a major role. The sector is projected to create over 10 million direct and 50 million indirect jobs by 2030.
This collaboration between NSDC and Mercedes-Benz India represents a significant step toward preparing India’s youth for future-ready careers while strengthening the nation’s EV and advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
