IIT Delhi has launched a new initiative to promote research and innovation among its faculty. Under this initiative, professors aged 45 or younger will be provided with special funding and other resources to enable them to successfully conduct their research projects.
According to IIT Delhi, the funding provided under this scheme is highly flexible and can be used for a variety of purposes, including the purchase of new machinery or equipment, software access, laboratory research, field work, prototype development, or hiring post-doctoral researchers. This scheme provides faculty with freedom and resources in every aspect of research.
Furthermore, the initiative will encourage collaboration with industry and other institutions to ensure that research benefits reach the practical realm. This will lead to the development of new technologies, the creation of patents and the promotion of scientific and technological innovation.
This program has been named the "Deepak Raghavan Family Foundation Accelerator Program." This initiative will not only strengthen IIT Delhi's research ecosystem but also provide a powerful platform for young faculty to advance their innovation and research.
This New Initiative Aims
To promote the research of promising and young professors. Under this program, faculty members aged 45 or younger will be appointed as Endowed Chair Professors for five years. This position will provide them with dedicated research funding, research staff and necessary resources, enabling them to continue their research work without interruption while also fulfilling their academic responsibilities.
The initiative aims not only to provide financial support but also to provide faculty with a holistic environment in which they can fully focus on their research projects. A fully funded PhD fellowship will also be awarded every five years. These PhD students will work under the guidance of a Chair Professor and will also have the opportunity to participate in international conferences held in India and abroad. This will provide young researchers with global exposure and enhance their knowledge and skills.
Such initiatives will not only strengthen IIT Delhi's research ecosystem but also encourage young faculty and research students to explore new frontiers and achieve excellence in science and innovation. This program will prove to be a significant step in the field of Indian higher education and research.
Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director of the Institute, has attached special importance to this new initiative to promote research and innovation at IIT Delhi. He states that IIT Delhi employs the country's best researchers, and such innovative programs inspire them to do even better. He believes that such initiatives will ensure India remains a leader in research and innovation in the future.
According to IIT Delhi, the aim of this initiative is not only to strengthen research but also to develop high-quality academic leaders and help them find solutions to real-world problems. Through this program, young faculty will be provided with adequate resources, funding and guidance, enabling them to independently develop their research while also fulfilling their academic responsibilities.
IIT Delhi states that this program is the result of a collaborative vision between Dr. Deepak Raghavan and the IIT Delhi Endowment Management Foundation. This vision is based on the long-term strengthening of education and research and the fostering of a culture of innovation at the institute.
This initiative will not only enhance the institute's research capabilities but will also develop important and practical solutions for the country, further strengthening India's leadership in science and technological innovation.
