India-US Bilateral Investment Rises to $240 Billion
Bilateral investment between India and the US has increased from $20 billion to $240 billion over the past two decades, with both countries focusing on investment, technology, manufacturing and job creation.

 

Economic and strategic ties between India and the United States are strengthening rapidly. Bilateral investment between the two countries has increased from $20 billion to $240 billion over the past two decades. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor shared the figures at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) National Convention 2026.

Addressing the convention, Gor said India and the US had achieved several milestones in bilateral trade and now had an opportunity to further expand economic cooperation. He highlighted the large US market as a major opportunity for Indian companies looking to grow their global presence.

The US Ambassador also assured business leaders that the US Embassy would continue to support stronger commercial engagement between the two countries. He said decisions taken today and in the coming years could shape the direction of India-US relations for several decades.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the growing strategic partnership between India and the US should be converted into investments, technology partnerships, manufacturing opportunities and employment. He said Maharashtra is a $660 billion economy and has grown at around 10.2% CAGR over the past seven years.

Fadnavis also highlighted investment opportunities in Maharashtra. He said the state is developing a 165-acre Medicity near its airport, with Cleveland Clinic having signed an agreement to become the anchor hospital for the project.

The convention highlighted Maharashtra opportunities in advanced manufacturing, digital technology, infrastructure, financial services, clean energy and emerging technologies. The Uttar Pradesh government also presented the state’s investment and export potential to American businesses.

IACC National President Anup Acharya said India-US relations have moved beyond traditional diplomacy and trade. The two countries are increasingly collaborating in areas such as defence, energy, education, technology and innovation. He highlighted growing opportunities in semiconductors, space, critical minerals, clean energy, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing.

IACC Regional Director–West Raghavendra Ponkshe said combining India’s talent and industrial capabilities with US investment and global reach could create significant opportunities for both countries. He also highlighted Maharashtra’s strong industrial and innovation ecosystem.

The one-day convention, themed “Redefining the India–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” featured discussions on pharmaceuticals, healthcare, artificial intelligence, cyber defence, critical minerals, technology supply chains and women-led enterprises. The event focused on turning the India-US partnership into concrete opportunities in investment, technology, resilient supply chains and employment.
