Matiks, a social gaming platform focused on mind sports has raised $10 million in a Pre-Series A funding round led by General Catalyst. The round also saw participation from entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures.
The company will use the funds to expand into international markets, develop new games and social experiences, and launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered game creation platform. The planned platform will allow users to build, publish and share their own brain games without requiring coding skills.
Founded in 2024, Matiks started as a competitive mental-math game before expanding into a broader platform featuring mathematics, memory, logic and puzzles. Players can participate in head-to-head competitions, daily challenges and single-player games while tracking their scores, ratings and progress.
Matiks Expands Its Focus on Skill-Based Learning
The platform recorded 2.2 million players who played 48 million games in September 2026. Its daily active users have more than doubled since June to over 300,000. Matiks has also reported early traction in international markets, including Japan, the US and South Korea.
“We started Matiks with a simple belief: using your brain can be just as fun and addictive as any other form of entertainment. Our ambition is to make mind sports as culturally relevant as physical sports and esports,” said Sudhanshu Bhatia, co-founder and CEO of Matiks.
The company is positioning itself as an alternative to passive digital entertainment by encouraging users to engage in competitive and skill-based games. Its focus on mathematics, memory and logic-based challenges places interactive problem-solving at the centre of its gaming experience.
Platform Reports Strong User Engagement
According to Matiks, users who complete a seven-day streak show 62% retention after one month, while some early user cohorts have retained 32% of users at week 52. These figures indicate continued engagement among users who regularly participate in its games.
Matiks recently introduced SNAC, an endless feed of single-player puzzles. The company said sessions involving the format are approximately three times longer, indicating stronger engagement among users who access it.
The company aims to build on this engagement by introducing more interactive experiences and expanding the range of games available to users. Its planned AI-powered platform is expected to give users a more active role in developing content rather than simply playing games created by others.
AI-Powered Game Creation to Support Global Expansion
Rahul Humayan, partner at General Catalyst, said Matiks was building a social platform where users could challenge friends, learn from one another and create games using AI. He added that the company had developed an engaged community ranging from everyday players to world champions and was now looking to expand globally.
A central part of its growth strategy is the proposed AI-powered game creation engine. By enabling users to develop and share their own brain games, Matiks aims to expand beyond a gaming platform into a creator-led ecosystem, where users can continuously introduce new experiences for players worldwide.
