The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched 24 ‘Nigam Shri’ schools in the capital to improve the education system. These schools will become fully operational from the current academic session. The main objective of this initiative is to provide students with a better learning environment equipped with modern facilities and to enhance the quality of government schools.
Focus on modern infrastructure and bilingual education
These ‘Nigam Shri’ schools will focus on modern infrastructure and bilingual education (Hindi and English). Located across different parts of Delhi, these schools will offer students the opportunity to study with new technology and improved facilities, helping to boost both their learning ability and confidence.
Schools based on PM-SHRI and CM-SHRI models
MCD Education Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma stated that these schools are designed on the lines of PM-SHRI and CM-SHRI school models. The aim is to provide high-quality education and better resources so that students can compete effectively in today’s world. He further added that a total of 24 schools have been launched, with two schools in each zone. These schools will serve as a model for other MCD schools, encouraging similar improvements in the future. MCD also plans to expand the scheme and open more ‘Nigam Shri’ schools across the city.
Yogesh Verma also mentioned that while many of these schools are already operational, infrastructure development is still ongoing in some of them. Efforts are being made to create a safe, clean and technologically advanced environment for students.
Smart classrooms, digital learning and improved facilities
According to an MCD official, special emphasis is being placed on modern amenities in these schools. Smart boards will be installed in every classroom, digital learning will be promoted and well-equipped libraries along with advanced educational resources will be provided. Additionally, facilities such as clean drinking water, hygienic restrooms, strong security systems, quality furniture, sports facilities, green infrastructure, and cultural programmes will also be ensured.
Focus on holistic development of students
These schools will not only focus on academics but also on the holistic development of students. Sports, cultural activities, and co-curricular programmes will help in personality development and prepare students for the future.
Scholarships and new digital facilities for students
During the announcement event, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh distributed scholarships of ₹1,000 each to 500 MCD school students. He also informed that the MCD Education Department has launched a mobile application for 1,514 schools, enabling parents to easily access information about their children’s homework, classwork, attendance and other details from home.
This initiative is being seen as a major step towards making Delhi’s education system more digital and modern. Through ‘Nigam Shri’ schools, MCD aims to provide facilities in government schools comparable to private institutions and ensure quality education for every child.
