The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) has launched a National AI Skill Programme for students and young professionals in creative fields. The registration process for the programme has also begun.
Developed in partnership with Google and YouTube, the initiative aims to train youth in modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies for sectors such as media, entertainment, animation, gaming and digital storytelling.
Under this programme, 15,000 students and young talents will receive AI skill scholarships, helping improve employability and create new career opportunities in the digital and creative sectors.
Future-Ready Professionals to Be Prepared for the Creative Industry
According to the government, this initiative is a major step toward strengthening India’s rapidly growing creative economy. The programme aims to go beyond theoretical learning and provide students with industry-ready skills.
The programme has been specially designed for youth interested in building careers in areas such as media, animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and extended reality (AVGC-XR).
The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), Mumbai, has been appointed as the main implementation partner for the initiative. The institute will oversee programme operations, student outreach and the training process across the country.
Training Programme to Be Conducted in Two Phases
The AI skill programme has been designed in two phases to ensure that students gain both foundational knowledge and practical expertise.
Phase One: Foundation (Online)
In the first phase, students will be introduced to the basics of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI. Under this phase, 15,000 participants will receive scholarships for the Google Career Certificate and Google Cloud’s Generative AI Learning Path.
Selected students will undergo nearly 33 hours of online training. The programme will cover the fundamentals of Generative AI, Prompting Techniques, Responsible AI Practices and problem-solving skills.
The government stated that this training will help students learn how to use AI tools in real-world work environments and prepare them according to industry requirements.
Phase Two: Specialisation and Practical Learning
Students who successfully complete the first phase will move on to advanced training in the second phase. This phase will follow a hybrid model, combining both online and offline learning methods.
During this stage, students will receive hands-on training through storytelling, creative content creation, AI tools, and project-based learning.
The curriculum, jointly developed by IICT and YouTube, also includes modern techniques related to content creation and digital engagement. Students will be trained to use AI tools and platforms through modules such as Google Developers Codelabs.
Support Through the AI Skills House Platform
The entire programme will also be supported through the “AI Skills House” platform. Through this platform, students will get access to structured learning tracks related to Generative AI applications, workflow automation and decision-making tools.
Experts believe that this initiative will strengthen students’ technical capabilities and help them explore new opportunities in content creation, media production and digital technology.
Boost to Employment and Innovation
According to the government, this initiative will help build a strong network of skilled talent in India’s media and digital sectors. Along with creating better employment opportunities for students, it is also expected to promote innovation and startup culture.
Dr Vishwas Deoskar, Chief Executive Officer of IICT, said that the programme has been designed to prepare youth for the practical use of AI in content creation, production, and digital distribution. He added that the demand for AI-based creative skills is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years, and this programme will play an important role in preparing students for the future.
