Foreign Language Skills to Boost Youth Employability: Dharmendra Pradhan
The Rajasthan government has taken a major step towards promoting foreign language education to connect youth with global employment opportunities.

During the Foreign Language Communication Skills Programme held at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur on Friday, the state government signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several institutions, including the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

The event was attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and several senior officials. The main objective of the programme was to prepare youth for new employment opportunities and global career prospects through foreign language skills.

Increasing Focus on Skill Development Among Youth

Addressing the programme, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the youth of Rajasthan possess a natural ability for hard work, innovation, entrepreneurship, and adapting to new situations. He stated that inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today’s youth are no longer focusing only on academic degrees but are increasingly paying attention to skill development and practical learning.

He said that in the coming years, knowledge of foreign languages could become a major medium for career growth among young people. In particular, the proposed Free Trade Agreement with the European Union could significantly increase the demand for professionals proficient in foreign languages.

Foreign Languages Will Open New Employment Opportunities

Dharmendra Pradhan said that language is not just a medium of communication but also a way to understand and connect different societies and cultures. He added that learning foreign languages such as French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish would significantly improve the employability of youth.

Referring to the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), he said that the policy is an important step towards promoting multilingual education and global learning. Through this initiative, emphasis is being placed on connecting the younger generation with international-level education and skills to build a developed India.

Both Mother Tongue and Foreign Languages Are Important: Jayant Chaudhary

Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, priority has been given to mother tongues in early education. He said that local languages strengthen cultural identity, confidence, and emotional connection, while foreign languages improve global communication skills and professional opportunities.

He added that in today’s time, young people need not only technical knowledge but also better communication skills and international language proficiency.

Employment Opportunities to Increase in Tourism and Other Sectors

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that foreign language skills are extremely important for a tourism-focused state like Rajasthan. He noted that with tourism continuously growing in the state, employment opportunities are increasing rapidly for tourist guides, hotel managers, travel agents and businesses connected with foreign visitors.

He added that development work being carried out by the government in tourism and infrastructure sectors will further increase the demand for youth proficient in foreign languages.

Focus on Making Youth Job Creators Instead of Job Seekers

The Chief Minister said that incidents such as paper leaks during the previous government had negatively impacted the youth, but the current administration has effectively controlled the issue. He stated that so far, 351 examinations have been conducted with complete transparency and not a single paper leak has occurred.

He said that the state government is working towards making youth not just job seekers but job creators. Referring to Swami Vivekananda, he encouraged young people to learn foreign languages and excel at both national and global levels.

New Initiative for Foreign Language Training

Under the Prime Minister’s vision for skill development, the Rajasthan government has partnered with the English and Foreign Languages University and the National Skill Development Corporation. Through this initiative, youth will receive training in languages such as French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Korean.

The government believes that this initiative will play an important role in helping young people secure better career opportunities in international companies, the tourism industry, education, global trade and several other sectors.
