EdTech company PhysicsWallah (PW) has prepared a strategy to strengthen its presence in South India. As part of this, the company’s Founder and CEO Alakh Pandey will base himself in South India for the next 24 months. The company will focus on expanding access to its education, test-prep and skilling services among students in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
Addressing students during an event in Tirupati, Alakh Pandey said that his focus for the next 24 months would be on students in South India. He said that along with expanding its presence in these states, the company wants to provide students with the same quality of education that it is offering in other parts of the country.
PhysicsWallah’s Special Focus on University Students
As part of this expansion, PhysicsWallah has entered into a five-year partnership with Andhra Pradesh-based Mohan Babu University (MBU). Under the partnership, around 18,000 university students will be offered online courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI), skilling, and career-focused learning. The partnership marks a step for PW beyond test-prep towards strengthening AI and career skilling among university students.
PhysicsWallah, founded by Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari, has reached more than 40 million students so far, while over 5 million paid students enrolled in FY2025-26. During FY2025-26, the company’s education ecosystem covered 16 test-prep categories.
16 Test-Prep Categories and More Than 89.4 Million App Downloads
According to PhysicsWallah’s FY2025-26 filing, the company had 353 centres, compared with 198 in FY2024-25. Its platforms had 6,837 faculty members and 18,977 employees. Meanwhile, its mobile app recorded more than 89.4 million cumulative downloads, along with a student community of 142 million.
PhysicsWallah initially built its identity through courses offered in Hinglish. The company now provides courses in Hindi, English, Hinglish, and nine regional languages. This multilingual model could help the company reach students from different linguistic backgrounds as it expands across South India.
Focus on Education and Skilling to Increase in South India
According to the company, the objective of its South India expansion is not only to establish a presence in new markets but also to provide students with greater opportunities in education, AI, skilling and career-focused learning. The partnership with Mohan Babu University is one of the first major steps in this direction.
PhysicsWallah’s expansion comes at a time when the company is increasing its offline and hybrid education infrastructure alongside its online model. The increase in the number of its centres to 353 in FY2025-26 is a key indication of this expansion.
