The company will begin distribution in Uttar Pradesh with Karnataka and Delhi scheduled as the next markets. The move signals Radico Khaitan’s continued focus on strengthening its presence in the premium rum segment within the Indian hospitality and retail landscape.
The Kohinoor Reserve is positioned as a triple-aged dark rum matured sequentially in American Bourbon barrels, Cognac XO casks and Vermouth casks. This ageing process differentiates the product within the global dark rum category and aligns with growing consumer interest in spirits offering complexity and provenance. The rum is distilled in small batches using fresh cane juice sourced during the North Indian winter season, reflecting a production approach rooted in traditional Indian rum-making practices.
Abhishek Khaitan, Managing Director Radico Khaitan, said “The rum category in India is a significant and growing sector, with consumers increasingly gravitating toward richer, more complex dark rum expressions. This renewed appreciation for craftsmanship and depth makes it an exciting time to expand our presence in the segment. The Kohinoor Reserve has already earned love and appreciation in international markets for its distinct character and refined profile, and we are truly pleased to now introduce it to our home market.”
From a brand and retail perspective, the product draws its identity from the Kohinoor diamond, with packaging designed to reflect structure, durability, and premium positioning. The bottle features a multi-faceted form intended to resemble a cut gem, with an oval diamond-inspired silhouette when viewed from above. Design elements such as broad shoulders a solid base, muted gold accents, and embossed detailing are aimed at reinforcing shelf presence in premium on-trade and off-trade environments.
Amar Sinha Chief Operating Officer Radico Khaitan Ltd., added “With The Kohinoor Reserve, we are proud to introduce a spirit that reflects India’s timeless craftsmanship and our own heritage at the Rampur Distillery, which has been rooted in rum distillation since 1943. This creation carries forward that legacy, crafted with patience, intention and the vision of offering something truly worthy of the Kohinoor name. We are excited to bring this new expression to Indian consumers and are looking forward to their response. As premium dark rum gains momentum in India, we believe this triple-aged expression will set a new benchmark for authenticity, depth and sophisticated indulgence.”
The product also references India’s long association with sugarcane cultivation and distillation, tracing its roots to early fermentation practices dating back to the Indus Valley civilisation. This historical linkage supports the brand’s positioning within a category that is seeing renewed interest from consumers seeking spirits with heritage-backed narratives.
In terms of consumption profile, the rum is described as offering sweet and fruity aromas supported by spice notes, dried fruits, roasted nuts and woody characteristics. The triple-cask maturation is intended to deliver depth without excessive harshness, catering to experienced rum consumers in premium hospitality settings.
The Kohinoor Reserve Indian Dark Rum will be priced at Rs 4,350 for a 750 ml bottle in Uttar Pradesh. It will be introduced in Karnataka at Rs 4,635 and in Delhi at Rs 3,750. The phased rollout reflects Radico Khaitan’s market-specific pricing and distribution strategy as it targets urban consumers and premium outlets across key Indian states
