The accreditation strengthens SENCO’s governance framework as the Indian gold industry moves steadily toward greater formalisation.

SENCO Gold and Diamonds has received accreditation from the Indian Association for Gold Excellence and Standards (IAGES) across more than 100 of its retail stores in India, reinforcing the jewellery major’s focus on ethical business practices, transparency, and consumer protection within the organised gold retail sector.

The accreditation strengthens SENCO’s governance framework as the Indian gold industry moves steadily toward greater formalisation. With a retail presence spanning gold, diamond, platinum, and silver jewellery, SENCO Gold and Diamonds brings over eight decades of legacy to the evolving organised jewellery market. The latest recognition adds to the company’s existing compliance with national and global standards, including BIS and the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).

IAGES is a self-regulatory body established by the domestic gold industry to promote accountability, responsible conduct, and transparency across the gold value chain. Its Code of Conduct applies to a wide spectrum of participants, including retailers, manufacturers, refiners, bullion traders, and allied entities. Accreditation is awarded only after a rigorous assessment conducted by an independent third-party evaluator, covering sourcing practices, refining processes, in-store operations, pricing transparency, and consumer-facing controls.

According to IAGES, the accreditation framework is designed to offer consumers higher assurance on the integrity, traceability, and accountability of accredited jewellery retailers.

Commenting on the development, Suvankar Sen, MD and CEO, SENCO Gold and Diamonds, said that as the Indian gold sector undergoes rapid formalisation, structured frameworks such as IAGES play a crucial role in strengthening trust. He noted that SENCO’s long-standing alignment with established standards positioned the brand as an early adopter, adding that accreditation across more than 100 stores reflects the company’s commitment to governance-led growth and transparent operating practices.

Kaushlendra Sinha, CEO, IAGES, said SENCO’s adoption of the IAGES framework sends a strong signal to the industry on the importance of consumer-centric standards, process integrity, and transparency. He added that widespread implementation of the IAGES Code of Conduct can help the gold industry build long-term credibility while aligning with global best practices.

The development comes amid rising regulatory oversight and growing consumer awareness, prompting jewellery retailers to adopt uniform benchmarks related to sourcing, pricing clarity, and operational controls. As part of its outreach initiatives, IAGES is also running a nationwide consumer awareness campaign titled #PehlaCheckIAGES, encouraging customers to verify IAGES accreditation before purchasing gold jewellery.

The accreditation of over 100 SENCO stores marks a meaningful step toward broader adoption of standardised governance practices in India’s jewellery retail landscape, reflecting the sector’s response to evolving regulatory expectations and increasingly informed consumers.
