Seshu Kumar Tirumala Takes Over as COO as BigBasket Sharpens Quick Commerce Focus

As BigBasket accelerates its evolution into a leading quick commerce platform, the Tata Group-backed online grocery retailer has appointed seasoned merchandising and sourcing leader Seshu Kumar Tirumala as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), entrusting him with a key role in driving the company’s next phase of growth and operational efficiency.

The leadership move comes at a pivotal juncture for BigBasket, which has spent FY26 reshaping its business model from a traditional scheduled-delivery grocery service into a fast-paced quick commerce player, competing more aggressively with rivals such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto.

In his new role, Seshu will oversee the company’s operations while continuing to steer its agriculture, sourcing and supply chain functions capabilities that are increasingly emerging as critical differentiators in India’s rapidly expanding instant-delivery market.

In a statement following his elevation, Seshu said “I’m excited to take on this role and continue building on the strong foundation we’ve created over the years.
