Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has started production of the new Škoda Slavia at its manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune. The milestone marks an important step in the company’s manufacturing and business journey in India. The updated Slavia has been prepared ahead of the festive season and comes with several upgrades across design, technology, comfort and safety.
The new Slavia builds on the sedan existing success, with around 80,000 units sold so far. According to the company, the model combines European engineering with the requirements of Indian customers. The new Slavia retains its 5-star Global NCAP safety rating and is powered by a 1.0 TSI engine paired with a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
In terms of features, the new Slavia gets a segment-first Rear Seat Massage Function, a 360-degree Area View Camera and a next-generation infotainment system. It also features an AI Companion powered by Google Cloud. Several other updates have been made to enhance the car’s comfort, connectivity and driving experience.
Škoda Auto Chief Production Officer Andreas Dick said India continues to play an important role in the company’s global manufacturing network. SAVWIPL Managing Director and CEO Piyush Arora said the start of Slavia production reflects the company’s development and manufacturing capabilities in India. Škoda Auto India Brand Director Ashish Gupta said the Slavia holds around a 30% share of its segment and that the updated model continues this legacy.
SAVWIPL operates two manufacturing plants in India with a combined annual production capacity of 315,000 units. The company crossed the milestone of 2 million locally produced vehicles in India in 2025. Under its “Made in India for India and the World” strategy, SAVWIPL has exported more than 725,000 vehicles to over 40 countries. With the expansion of its Technology Centre in Pune, the company is also focusing on localisation, innovation and product development for global markets.
