Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) has partnered with Tata Communications to integrate built-in 5G cellular connectivity into its newly launched electric SUV, the Sierra.ev. The collaboration aims to strengthen connected features and digital services in the electric vehicle.

Under the partnership, the Tata Communications MOVE Connected Vehicle Platform will be integrated with Tata Motors’ proprietary Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform, N.IO. According to the company, the platform will serve as the digital foundation for connected features and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled applications throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

The connected platform will enable features such as faster Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, real-time remote vehicle diagnostics and emergency call systems in the Sierra.ev. Customers will also get access to remote support services, secure in-cabin content streaming and digital subscription management.

Sven Patuschka, Chief Technology Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said that as vehicles become increasingly software-defined, digital connectivity and services will play an important role in enhancing customer experiences. He added that the Sierra.ev represents an important step in this evolution, while the partnership with Tata Communications will provide the digital infrastructure required for seamless connectivity and continuous innovation.

According to Tata Motors, the collaboration will help deliver improved connectivity, continuous software innovation and enhanced in-vehicle experiences in the Sierra.ev. The partnership is also expected to strengthen the company’s strategy around connected and software-defined electric vehicles.
