Ultraviolette to Invest 1,000 Crore Over Next Five Years

Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ultraviolette Automotive will invest around ₹1,000 crore over the next five years to expand its manufacturing, supply chain and production capabilities. Of the planned investment, around ₹200 crore will be spent on expanding its existing facility, while approximately ₹800 crore will be invested in a new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu.

The new plant is being developed at SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu. It will initially have a production capacity of around 250,000 vehicles annually, which will eventually be scaled up to 500,000 units per year. According to Ultraviolette CEO Narayan Subramaniam, the facility is expected to reach full capacity between the first and second quarters of 2027. The plant will be capable of manufacturing all six of the company's electric two-wheeler models.

Currently, Ultraviolette produces the F77 and X47 electric motorcycles and is preparing to add the Shockwave electric motorcycle and Tesseract electric scooter to its portfolio. The company plans to offer a total of four electric motorcycles and two scooters. Ultraviolette expects the Tesseract alone to generate demand of at least 10,000 units per month.

The new facility will cater to both domestic and international markets. The company expects exports to account for around 15% of total volumes initially, increasing to approximately 25% over time. Ultraviolette is focusing on markets across Europe, Latin America and North America, while also starting pilot programmes in Southeast Asia. The company currently has a presence in nearly 20 European countries.

Alongside capacity expansion, Ultraviolette is working to strengthen its domestic supply chain for components such as battery cells, microcontrollers/chips and certain magnet materials. The company expects to achieve full localisation of its vehicle supply chain over the next three to four years. Despite the expansion, profitability will remain a key priority, with the company continuing to focus on in-house technology development to reduce dependence on external technology suppliers.
