UP Targets Japanese Investment in Auto, Manufacturing
Uttar Pradesh seeks stronger collaboration with Japan in automobiles, advanced manufacturing, green hydrogen and technology, highlighting investment and technology partnership opportunities at the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026.

Uttar Pradesh Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna has emphasised strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Japan, with the state looking to attract greater Japanese investment and expand industrial cooperation. He made the remarks at the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 held in New Delhi on August 19.

A Japanese delegation led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, participated in the event. Khanna said cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Japan extends beyond investment and includes opportunities for long-term industrial and institutional partnerships.

Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s investment potential, Khanna cited improved connectivity, a large consumer market, skilled human resources, infrastructure development and investment-friendly policies as key strengths of the state. He also highlighted Nivesh Mitra, the state’s single-window investment facilitation platform, aimed at simplifying business processes for investors.

Focus on Automobiles and Advanced Manufacturing

Automobiles and advanced manufacturing were identified as key areas for greater cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Japanese industry. Other sectors highlighted during the meeting included green hydrogen, technology, innovation and healthcare.

Khanna said the state’s industrial ecosystem can offer Japanese companies opportunities beyond capital investment, including technology partnerships, innovation and industrial collaboration.

He also referred to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent visit to Japan, saying that the visit had provided additional momentum to industrial and institutional ties between the two sides.

Green Hydrogen and Technology Cooperation

Green hydrogen and advanced technologies emerged as potential areas of collaboration between Japanese companies and Uttar Pradesh. The state aims to combine Japan’s technological capabilities with its expanding industrial base to create new investment and industrial opportunities.

Khanna said Uttar Pradesh views Japan as a long-term partner in sustainable development, with cooperation extending beyond investment to technology and industrial activities.

The UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 aims to strengthen economic, industrial and institutional ties between Uttar Pradesh and Japan while promoting Japanese investment, technology partnerships and industrial collaboration in the state.
