Wealth advisory firm Waterfield Advisors has launched two outbound Alternative Investment Funds from GIFT City, offering Indian investors a pooled route to international exposure.
The Waterfield Global Opportunity Fund will invest across international equities, commodities and global themes, without being tied to a single country or investment idea. The Waterfield Global Fixed Income Fund will focus on global debt and fixed-income assets. Both funds will follow an active, research-driven investment approach.
Waterfield said the goal is to help investors add international exposure alongside their existing Indian portfolios, not replace them. The funds are based in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, will operate in foreign currency, and will have independent custody and third-party administration.
The firm noted India accounts for about 3% of global equity market capitalization, meaning portfolios concentrated only in Indian assets carry concentration risk to a single market and currency. It pointed to sectors such as semiconductors, AI infrastructure, aerospace and global pharmaceuticals as areas of opportunity overseas, and has recommended a minimum 10% allocation to global assets for family-office portfolios, to be rebalanced periodically.
Indian residents can already invest overseas directly under the RBI’s Liberalized Remittance Scheme, which allows remittances of up to USD 250,000 per financial year. Waterfield’s GIFT City funds offer an alternative route through a pooled vehicle, rather than requiring investors to open individual overseas brokerage accounts.
“The funds were launched in response to clients seeking access to global markets while retaining a structured investment and governance framework,” said Soumya Rajan, founder and CEO, Waterfield Advisors.
