Rapido to Expand ‘Ownly’ Food Delivery Pilot in Bengaluru, Plans Metro Rollout
Unlike established players Swiggy and Zomato, Ownly uses a flat delivery fee model and does not charge commissions or packaging fees.

Bike taxi platform Rapido is set to expand its food delivery pilot, Ownly, to more areas in Bengaluru by the end of November, with plans to enter other metro cities soon. Launched in August, the service currently operates in localities like Koramangala, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout, targeting students and working professionals.

Unlike established players Swiggy and Zomato, Ownly uses a flat delivery fee model and does not charge commissions or packaging fees, aiming to offer a more affordable and transparent service. An Ownly spokesperson said the company is committed to building a sustainable ecosystem that benefits both consumers and restaurant partners.

The expansion comes amid a major shift in Rapido’s ownership. Swiggy recently sold its stake in Rapido for ₹2,400 crore to Prosus and Westbridge Capital, with Prosus reportedly leading a fresh $350 million funding round to fuel Rapido’s entry into the competitive food delivery sector.

However, Ownly’s model has met resistance from restaurants. Concerns have been raised over the platform’s insistence on offline price parity, which prevents restaurants from marking up prices online, a common industry practice. Additionally, since Ownly doesn’t charge customers for packaging, eateries are currently absorbing those costs.

Sources say Rapido is considering changes, including absorbing packaging fees, to address these concerns. Despite early friction, industry watchers believe there is strong potential for a third major player in India’s growing food delivery market. As Rapido readies for a larger rollout, the coming months will be key to determining if Ownly can carve out space in a market long dominated by two giants.
