Alphabet’s investment in SpaceX has grown more than 100-fold over the past decade, with its stake valued at about USD 94 billion as of June 30, 2026, compared with the USD 900 million it invested in the Elon Musk-led company in 2015.
Alphabet has emerged as SpaceX’s largest reported institutional shareholder following the company’s USD 86 billion IPO in June. The Google parent held 551.2 million SpaceX shares at the end of the second quarter, valued at about USD 94.2 billion based on SpaceX’s June 30 share price of USD 170.86.
At SpaceX’s closing price of USD 141.29 on August 13, Alphabet’s stake was worth about USD 77.9 billion, still representing an 86.5-fold increase over its original investment.
Top Institutional Holders
Fidelity Investments was the second-largest reported institutional holder with 302.6 million shares, followed by Gigafund Management with 171.8 million, Baillie Gifford with 51.4 million and BlackRock with 51 million. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund held 154.1 million shares, valued at USD 26.3 billion at the end of June.
The five largest reported institutional holders - Alphabet, Fidelity, Gigafund Management, Baillie Gifford and BlackRock, accounted for nearly three-quarters of the reported SpaceX shares.
SpaceX said in a regulatory filing that Musk owned a 48.4% stake in the company. Its shares have since declined from the June 30 level but remained above the IPO price of USD 135.
