Amara Raja Energy & Mobility is preparing to participate in the government’s 10 GWh ACC PLI tender aimed at developing grid-scale energy storage capacity.

Amara Raja Energy & Mobility plans to participate in the government’s fresh 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) manufacturing tender. The capacity has been earmarked for grid-scale energy storage under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The company said it is currently reviewing the tender documents and qualification criteria. The government has invited bids for the 10 GWh capacity, with the last date for submission set for October 13 and technical bids scheduled to open on October 14.

The 10 GWh allocation is part of the government’s target to establish 50 GWh of domestic ACC manufacturing capacity. Of the total targeted capacity, 40 GWh has already been allocated, while the remaining 10 GWh is being offered for grid-scale stationary storage. Amara Raja had earlier participated in the ACC PLI scheme but did not secure an allocation. The company is now evaluating the qualification criteria before finalising its approach to the new tender.

Amara Raja is also increasing its focus on the energy storage segment. The company has started construction of a 10 GWh BESS gigafactory, which will cater to grid-scale as well as commercial and industrial energy storage applications. The facility is expected to begin operations in the third quarter of FY2027. In addition, the company is developing a lithium-ion cell gigafactory at Divitipally in Telangana, where it plans to start production with 2 GWh of NMC-based capacity in the second quarter of calendar year 2027 and scale it up to 16 GWh by FY2030.

Amara Raja has invested around Rs 1,900 crore in its new energy subsidiary, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, so far. According to the company, rising renewable energy deployment and growing grid storage requirements could drive faster demand for energy storage cells. Amara Raja continues to target a long-term 15-20% share of the lithium cell market. The government’s new 10 GWh tender is expected to support domestic battery manufacturing, strengthen the energy storage ecosystem and reduce dependence on imported cells.
