Porter Crosses 10,000 Electric Trucks

Digital goods transportation platform Porter has achieved a major operational milestone by deploying its 10,000th electric truck in Delhi. The vehicle was formally flagged off in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. The milestone highlights the growing adoption of electric vehicles in Porter’s urban freight operations.

According to the company, Porter currently operates more than 50,000 electric vehicles every month across its network. It plans to quadruple the size of its electric fleet over the next five years. Through its digital platform and focus on better asset utilisation, Porter has eliminated 185 crore kilometres of empty runs so far.

The company said reducing empty trips has resulted in fuel import savings of more than Rs 1,000 crore to date. Porter’s digital platform helps improve vehicle utilisation and optimise routes, contributing to more efficient and sustainable urban goods transportation.

Porter Co-Founder and CEO Uttam Digga said reaching the 10,000 electric truck milestone is an important achievement for the company. He noted that electric trucks can play a major role in India’s transition towards cleaner freight transportation, but large-scale adoption will require solutions addressing vehicle economics, charging infrastructure, financing and utilisation challenges.

Porter Co-Founder and Executive Vice Chairman Pranav Goel said the journey to 10,000 electric trucks was made possible through collaboration with driver-partners, OEMs, EV infrastructure providers and policymakers. The company believes that a stronger EV ecosystem and supportive policies can help accelerate the adoption of electric freight transportation across India.
