Advanced Micro Devices briefly surpassed $1 trillion in market capitalization for the first time on Monday, as investors bet on its expanding role in AI computing. Shares rose as much as 9.6% to a record high of $613.31, taking AMD into an exclusive group of US chipmakers valued above $1 trillion, following Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron Technology.
AMD’s stock has risen approximately 185% since the start of 2026, far outpacing the Nasdaq’s roughly 16% gain over the same period. The rally spread across the semiconductor sector, with Intel gaining about 13% and Arm Holdings climbing by double digits, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose roughly 3%.
AMD has accelerated its AI product launches and moved beyond selling individual chips to offering complete systems combining processors, networking gear and related hardware, positioning itself as the closest US rival to Nvidia in AI accelerators. The company is also gaining share from Intel in central processing units used alongside GPUs for AI inference workloads.
“Money is moving back into the AI trade,” said Thomas Hayes, Chairman, Great Hill Capital.
