Anicut Capital and angel investment network The Chennai Angels (TCA) have entered into a strategic partnership to strengthen early-stage startup investing in India through a Category I Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) structure.
The partnership aims to increase equity investments in early-stage startups by providing founders with access to structured institutional capital. Under the arrangement, startups that meet the investment criteria will be able to raise capital through the AIF, with investments reflected as a single investor on the company’s cap table. The companies said this structure is expected to simplify equity management while making future fundraising and governance more efficient.
Anicut Capital currently manages more than INR 4,500 crore in assets under management (AUM) across seven funds, including three debt funds and four equity funds, with investments in over 200 companies. The Chennai Angels, founded in 2007, has a network of more than 150 investors and has invested over INR 200 crore across 99 startups.
Through the partnership, The Chennai Angels will leverage its early-stage deal sourcing network, while Anicut Capital will bring its investment management capabilities to support startups with funding and strategic guidance.
Commenting on the partnership, Ajay Anand, Partner, Anicut Capital, said: “Tamil Nadu’s legacy as a manufacturing powerhouse is now being complemented by a new wave of product-led and SaaS-first companies emerging from the state. These are precisely the segments where Anicut has built deep conviction. Through this partnership, founders gain not just access to capital, but the combined strategic value that Anicut and The Chennai Angels bring to the table – from institutional expertise to a deep operator and investor network.”
Mahalingam K, Head of the Executive Committee, The Chennai Angels, added: “At the Chennai Angels, we have always believed that backing founders goes beyond providing capital - we work closely with them to help them succeed. As a founder-first organisation, we are delighted to partner with Anicut Capital to create a more structured and seamless investment pathway for funding startups. By combining TCA’s strong angel investor network with Anicut’s institutional investment expertise, we can offer founders not only faster access to capital but also the strategic guidance and support they need to build enduring businesses.”
