Financial services firm Avendus has announced the elevation of Karan Sharma to Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking, effective immediately. Sharma succeeds Gaurav Deepak, Co-founder and CEO of Avendus Group, who has led the investment banking franchise alongside the broader organization for several years.
The leadership transition is aimed at providing dedicated focus to the investment banking business as Avendus enters its next phase of growth, while enabling Deepak to concentrate on the firm’s broader strategic priorities.
A veteran at Avendus, Sharma has spent over 15 years with the firm and has been instrumental in building its digital and technology investment banking practice into one of India’s leading private equity and M&A advisory platforms. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving the strategic direction, growth agenda and institutional development of the investment banking business.
Commenting on the appointment, Gaurav Deepak said, “As Avendus grows in scale and ambition, we have reached a point where the next phase of growth requires dedicated leadership for our investment banking franchise. Karan’s leadership, his ability to build and develop teams, his deep client relationships and his role as an ambassador of our culture over the past 15 years make him the natural choice to lead it.”
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Karan Sharma said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead Avendus’ Investment Banking business at such an exciting stage of its journey. My focus will be on strengthening client partnerships, deepening our sector expertise and reinforcing Avendus’ position as the trusted advisor to India’s most ambitious businesses.”
Avendus Capital is widely recognized as one of India’s leading investment banks with a strong track record across private capital raising, mergers and acquisitions and public market transactions, serving clients across growth-stage and established businesses.
